hi………..
it is a nice xperience 2 c ur infant blog.
best wishes….

2. Preethi - October 11, 2006

Hi Chitranshu,

Nice to see sensitivity in a youngster. Nice blog too. Interesting read, but may I say, I preferred your personal blogs to the other ones, being an ‘experiential’ person myself.

Best wishes on your journey ahead.

3. chitranshu - October 11, 2006

@ Preethi
Thanks a lot.
As for the ‘personal’ tag, it has the maximum posts out of all my tags, if you noticed. :)

However, I believe that one should write about personal experiences only if it might be of some interest to the general reader. I mean, why would anyone want to know what you had today morning for breakfast? :P

4. Santosh - November 1, 2007

Hi,

It is not bad idea to join to corporate after your M.Phil/PhD. You always get interesting problems to solve in corporate.
Research is nothing but to solve interesting problems.

It is not good idea to drop out from a programme and comment on how to teach Economics. Every programme has good courses and bad courses. You have to live with it. Hence first learn the subject and then build new way to thinking in Economics.

All the best for future

5. chitranshu - November 1, 2007

Hi Santosh,

I am not sure whether I know you, but I presume your advice about economics is pertaining to my leaving IGIDR. If you have read my other posts, you might know that I am now appearing for the UPSC exams. At the risk of sounding immodest, I would like to say that I am confident that by mid-2008, I would be either in the IAS or IFS, or in one of the IIMs.
If inspite of such career options, I choose to join some other program, it would only be if I really like it. If I have to make ‘compromises’ with ‘good’ and ‘bad’ courses, I would rather do it in a more lucrative field. That was my point in writing that post, and indeed, in leaving IGIDR.

Thank you for your comment and the wishes.

6. Santosh - November 2, 2007

I am ex IITB and ex IGIDR. All the best for your future.

10. Gopalakrishnan - February 25, 2008

Hii man,
I am doing my final year Engineering, I just want to know, what materials are better. There are N number of institutions giving correspondence materials, I dont want to go by anyone’s words other than yours. Kindly tell me where do I start with ? What materials should I purchase ?

11. chitranshu - February 25, 2008

@ Gopalakrishnan
Hi, I cannot advise you completely on what to buy and what not to buy, but from whatever I have seen, IMS material is better than the other coaching institutes. But my opinion could be biased because I taught in IMS. What is more important is what you do with that material, the amount of hard work and smart work that you put in.

12. Neetu - February 27, 2008

15. anubhav - March 6, 2008

hi,
i am first year student at iitd doing chem. eng.
actually i wanted to ask the importance of x-tra currics in gd/pi.and how can it affect the selection.actually throughout my student life ,i was not much interested in such activities.but i am gud at academics and current affairs..i tried joining various clubs here in iit,but due to lack of interest all went in vain.hope u can understand my problem…

16. chitranshu - March 6, 2008

@ Anubhav
In my opinion, you should focus on the things you are good at. If you are good at academics and current affairs, focus on that. Do take part in extra-curricular activities, but only if you have the enthu for it. Do not force yourself to do that just because you think it might help improve your resume. A good academic record is the best thing you can show on your resume.

17. anubhav - March 6, 2008

but will lack of participation in x-tra activities affect PI in future???

18. chitranshu - March 6, 2008

@ Anubhav
Well, let me put it this way. If you have a higher CGPA at the end of four years, that will be as good or even better than someone with a CGPA around 1 or 2 points lower than you but an exceptional extra-curricular record. Because inspite of what that other person might achieve, he will still have to face questions on why he did not perform well, why did he not like his subject, or whatever.
Extra-curricular activities do help you, but more in terms of making you learn new things, broadening your horizons and teaching you about team-work and leadership. So take it in that spirit, not just to get additional points on your resume.

19. Utsav dargan - March 7, 2008

hi chitranshu..
i am a 3rd yr mechanical engg student in PEC,chandigarh..m preparing for cat..as of now i feel that m striving hard for it but thats not what i have to achieve..the thought about GD/pi worries me to a greater extent..i gotta clear them to really achieve smthng…could u just post in your views regarding the preparation for GD/PI at this stage..(about 8 months before cat)..what all do i need to do at this very juncture???
plz help me out dude..!!!
and hey all d best!!!

20. chitranshu - March 8, 2008

@ Utsav
I would suggest that you focus on the exam right now. However, keep reading a lot and keep yourself abreast of current affairs.
As for GD/PIs, you can start by forming a group of like-minded friends in college and meeting occasionally to discuss the latest topics in a formal way.
